Punishments were harsh and universal, since even the lightest crimes were given heavy punishments. Witnesse and the accused were sometimes tortured to present evidence. The brutality became so extreme that the public didn't attend court prossecutions. -

It depends on which country you are in to decide what fate you will get for the different crimes. E.g. New Zealand and Australia do not have the death penalty were as America has the death penalty for major crimes, also longer sentancing.
