The tape Recorder was invented in 1928 by Germany. Magnetic Tape is what it really is was kept secret during ww2 and after the invasion on Germany the us found it and it took off. The exact date is unknown. -
The creation of the Ondes Martenot
The Ondes Martenot was a early electronic based instrument similar to the Theremin. The Ondes Martenot was created by Maurice Martenot in 1928. It uses a ring on a piece of wire stretched along a piano (which originally was not played) to change pitches and a button on the left side to change the volume of the sound. -
The creation of the Hammond organ
The Hammond organ was to replace the pipe organ but was rejected by pipe organist saying it was too electronic. Therefore the Hammond organ was born. The Hammond organ was created by an inventor named Laurens Hammond in 1929. -

Musique concrete was begining to pop up
Musique Concrete or concrete music is an experimental form of music beginning in the late 30's. Two popular men Pierre Schaeffer and Pierre Henry Started to experiment with recorded sounds and mixing them together. The picture shows Pierre Schaeffer next to a recorder where he creates his music. -
New music notation is created
Since this new kind of music hit the scene traditional notation was insufficient in writing the score. So by creating a new type of notation it would be easier to read and play it with that kind of sound such as Musique concrete. The new notation looked more like graphs than on a line. -
The first computer generated music
In 1951, in England the computer Ferranti Mark 1 computer played the songs God save the Queen, Baa Baa Black Sheep, and In The Mood. -

The First synthesizer is born
The RCA Mark II was created and developed in 1958 by Herbert Belar and Harry Olson. It was the first programmable Synth weighing about 3 tons and over 20 feet wide al contained in one room. -
Moog synthesizer created
The Moog synthesizer was created in 1964 and was the first commercially available synthesizer. Created by Robert Moog although easier than the RCA 2 it still had complexities such having a background in wave physics. It was in mid October when the Moog was introduced. -
The Buchla Synth was created
The Buchla Synth was created for the West coast being that the Moog was on the East coast the West coast wanted a synth for their own. While the both being very complex with many chords and plugs the Moog had a keyboard while the Buchla had touch sensitive plate the Buchla was created by Donald Buchla in 1966 which was when they became commercially available. -
MIDI is created
MIDI or Musical instrument digital interface was created so that computers and synths could talk to each other. MIDI was also used to help synthesizers talk to each other. It was started being talked about in 1981 with Ikutaru Kakehashi and Dave Smith and announced they would have MIDI at the 1982 NAMM show. And in January 1983 it was complete and ready to release to the public.
