The November Revolution
During the November Revolution supporters of the Bolsheviks's including their Worker's Militia, the Red Guard, marched on Petrogad led by Joseph Stalin and Leon Trostky. They managed to successfully overthrow the Provisional Government and install themselves in their place. This gave the majority of people what they want and made Russia communist. -
Russian Civil War
The Bolsheviks, having been placed into power, were going to have to fight an inevitable civil war to secure their power. At this time their grip on power was fragile and the White Armies, led by Tsarist armies, fought against the communists. Intervention from foreign soil was a threat during this time. -
General Kornilov's Attack
General Kornilov, an imperial Russian Officer, launched an attack on Petrograd against the Provisional Government so he may install himself in their place. The weak Provisional Government supplied the Bolshevik Red Guard with money and supplies to help defend Petrograd from the attack. The General's army halted after workers remove the train tracks they were coming on and helped them consider peace. As there was no attack the Bolsheviks kept the supplies the Provisional Government had given them -

Food Riots
Peasants rioted as the scarcity of food increased, and it was becoming hard to feed themselves and their families. Many of the rioters were shot, however the soldiers who were shooting them were peasants and had mercy and proceeded to join them in the revolt against the Tsar. -
Tsar Nicholas II abdicates from the throne
Tsar Nicholas II abdicates from the throne to stop Russia plunging into a civil war. He names his brother his successor, however he refused the Job which meant the Romanov royal line ended. The Russian Empire also fell following this event, much to the delight of the Russian people. -
The Provisional Government was Installed
After the abdication of the Tsar and the monarchy was dissolved, the provisional government took charge in his place. This was led by Alexander Kerensky. The Provisional Government did not solve the people's problems and were seen to be just as bad the king. A primary problem of this government was they attempted to continue the war. -
America Joins WW1
America joins it's allies, Britain and France, in defeating the opposition. This led to the death of over 2 million American troops. -
Creation Of The Red Guard
In April of 1917 the Red Guard militia was formed and would later play a crucial role in the the November revolution. They were voluntarily enlisted and were loyal to the Bolsheviks. During the November revolution their number totalled to approximately 40,000 soldiers. -
The July Days
Soldiers staged armed demonstrations against the Provisional Government leading to a temporary decline in Bolshevik power. On July 4th the Bolsheviks planned a peaceful protest, which led to an armed conflict after some confusion. The demonstration was thus deprived of it's political goal. And crowds dispersed by nightfall. -
Russia Declared Republic
The Provisional Government had set up the Russia Republic at the start of September, however this was short-lived as the following Bolshevik Revolution abolsihed it. Te Republic was comprised of many lands within the Russian Empire, not following the people ideal of no empire. -
Russian Ceasfire
On the 2nd of December a ceasefire was declared by the Bolsheviks to prevent further Russian involvement in World War 1. -
Rasputin Assasinated
Rasputin was assassinated by the Russian Prince after he gained a large amount of influence in the Duma. He was given cakes laced with poison, which should have killed him in seconds, but instead he was not affected. Then he was shot and managed to crawl away still alive. Finally, he was chased down and shot in the head before being weighed down and his body thrown in the Malaya Nevka River.
