    Poverty, low wages, high food prices, widespread corruption, police brutality and violation of human rights caused the people of Egypt to gather in Tahir Sqaure to stage a unified protest against President Mubarak as their first revolutionary act. Police reponded buy using tear gas and water cannons against the people, who answered by throwing stones at them forcing the police to fall back.

    Tens of thousands filled the streets of Egypt. Hours earlier, the government shut down the internet and cellular communication. Once again the police came at the cilvilians with tear gas, rubber bullets and water cannons, but this time the military got involved as protesters set buildings ablaze.

    Mubarak sent his army to silence and drive off the protesters with live ammunition, however this plan failed miserably as all Egyptian male citizens are required to serve some time in the military. Since the loyalty of the military was to Egypt's people and not to Mubarak, they refused to fire.

    The day before, Mubarak once again let down the people of Egypt when he made an announcement on his position in terms of resignation. The people crowded the streets expecting to witness Mubarak's speech announcing departure of office, when Mubarak only spoke of his continuance. This angered the people of Egypt who protested greatly and eventally forced Mubarak to step down the following day on Febrary 11, 2011, and so ending the Egyptian Revolution.
