Assassination of Anwar Sedat
Egyptian President Anwar Sadat was assinated during the annual victory parade to celebrate Egypt's crossing of the Suez Canal. Khalid Islambouli threw 3 grenades at Sadat. One exploded and killed Sadat and 11 others. -
After the Assassination
After the assassination of Sedat, the Egyptian Islamic Jihad were tried in civil court and some had to be executed. Some people, like Ayman al-Zawahiri were given long prisonm sentences, but al-Zawahiri won an appeal. -
Attempted Assassinations
The Egyptian Islamic Jihad claimed assassination attempts of Interior Minister Hassan al-Alfi in August, and Prime Minister Atef Sedky in November. -
Mubarak Assassination Attempt
Egyptian Islamic Jihad joined forces with the Egyptian al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya and Sudanese intelligence to try and kill Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak. They had been planning the attack for over a year. the Grenade launcher malfunctioned and Mubarak had a bullet-proof limousine. -
Egyptian Embassy Bombing
The attack was planned in 1994 by Ayman al-Zawahiri. Two men, at 9:30 A.M., killed the security. Later, a car drove up with a 250-lb bomb and blew up the gates. A second car ,carrying a larger bomb, blew up the building. -
Luxor Egypt Attack
Ayman al-Zawahiri organized an attack in Luxor, Egypt. Six men were dressed as police and had machine guns and knives. The attack took only 45 minutes, but 71 people were killed. -
Merge with al-Qaida
Al-Zawahiri formally merged the Egyptian Islamic Jihad into al-Qaeda, although they had worked with al-Qaida for a while. -

This alliance was formed by the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, Al-Qaida, and other terrorist groups from the Muslim World. This alliance made a statment to kill Americans and their allies. -
New Leader of Al-Qaeda
When the U.S. Special forces captured Osama Bin Laden, the previous leader of Al-Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahiri became the new leader. He was previously the leader of the Egyptian Isamic Jihad.
