  • Joilet Community College

    Joilet Community College
    JCC in Illinois (which was the 1st Jr College in the US) added courses to extend high school curriculum (5th and 6th year).
  • Phoenix Jr. College Established

    PJC was established at a part of the Phoenix Union High School District.
  • Low Enrollments

    Throughout the few community colleges in the nation, enrollments were generally low and most colleges only offered liberal arts programs.
  • PJC Location

    PJC Location
    Phoenix Jr College established it's campus in the area of 12th ave and Thomas (where it still stands today).
  • Jobs Training

    Colleges around the nation began offered job training programs to help with unemployment during the Great Depression.
  • Baby Boomers

    Baby boomers reached college age and as a result, college enrollments grew. New colleges were built to accommodate the student population.
  • Funding

    The AZ legislature authorized the State Board of Directors for Jr Colleges and created Jr College Districts which were supported by government funds.
  • MCJCD formed

    The Maricopa Country Jr College District is formed and Phoenix College is the first institution to be integrated into it.
  • Accreditation

    Phoenix College, Glendale Community College and Mesa Community College all receive accreditation from NCA. This solidified the level of excellence in education of MCCCD's institutions.
  • National Growth

    During the 70's the nation's community colleges become increasingly important in the educational system. Enrollment nearly doubles from 2.2 million at the beginning of the decade, to 4.3 million by the end.

    Maricopa County Community College District celebrates it's 25th year.
  • PC turns 75

    Phoenix College celebrates it's 75th year.
  • PC turns 90

    Phoenix College celebrates it's 90th year.
  • New Hannelly Center on PC's Campus

    New Hannelly Center on PC's Campus
    The new Hannelly center opens on PC's main campus. This building houses the majority of student resources (enrollment, cashier's office, veteran's affairs, career services, testing center, counseling, tutoring, financial aid, scholarships, transfer office, and the student café) making it essentially a one-stop shop for student's needs.

    Nursing Building opens at PC
    A new, state of the art building opens on PC's campus for the nursing program, offering the latest advancements in technology for nursing students.
  • Healthcare Center opens at PC

    Healthcare Center opens at PC
    A new Healthcare Center opens on PC's campus. This building is the location for the Dental Assisting program, Dental Hygiene program, Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy, and Massage programs. This building offers the latest and greatest in medical and dental equipment and training to prepare student's for their careers.
