Discovery of Ecuador
While the Inca civil war was still raging the Spanish traveled around south america coming to rest in Ecuador. Since the Inca were weak from their long war, the Spanish took advantage of the situation and settled in after defeating the Inca tribes. -
Independence Date
This is the day and year that Ecuador was able to separate itself from the rule of Spain. Many battles were waged up until this point but this day was when the Ecuador formed a federation called Gran Colombia. -

Before the Banking Crisis occurred in Ecuador, the production and sales of petroleum made up around a third of the countries export income. Because the price of petroleum dropped, the economy of Ecuador suffered a severe drop until 2000. -

After being elected to office, President Rafael Correa decided that the previous constitution in act was to be revised and changed to better suit the country and it's people. -
7.8 Magnitude Earthquake
A 7.8 magnitude earthquake shook the coast of Ecuador killing almost 700 people and leaving over 6,000 injured. The earthquake was only 100 miles from the capital and left 35,000 homes destroyed and 100,000 more people without shelter. Many major sanitary, healthcare, and water facilities were also destroyed adding the the major cost affects on the country. -
Lenin Moreno is Elected President
Lenin Moreno was the president who boosted the economy of Ecuador by restarting the private sector, and holding public referendums to improve the economy and employment rates.
