Controversy Over Icons In The Eastern Church
In the year 726, part of the church started to question the veneration (worshiping) of icons. Icons were pictures of Jesus or another holy figure. The Eastern Churches didn't agree with Icons because of the readings in the Old testament when people were shamed for worshiping the golden cow. -

Photius was a brilliant Patriarch of Constantinople who dissagreed with Pope Nicholas I and Pope Adrian II over the athority of papacy and bashed the Filioque Cause which was a part of the Nicine Creed. -

In the year one thousand twenty four the church split in two parts. The roman catholic church was in the west and the eastern orthodox church was obviously in the east. the two major reasons for division between the Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church had to do with the papacy and the Creed. -

The Great Crusades
In 1095, four armies of crusaders joined together and attacked Constantinople. The leader of the army wanted the people to surrender but they refused so there was a war until later in July when the Eastern side gave up. -

The End Of The First Crusades
After the attack on Constantinople in 1095 the Crusaders were at the large. They attacked many more cities but soon died away in 1099. That was the last of the crusades. -

The Second Crusade
The Crusader went out of Rome once again to pillage neighboring cities and take back what was supposedly taken from them. Although this crusade lasted only for two years, they did much damage and never truly died out. -

Second Attack On Constantinople
After the Second Crusade, the crusaders never truly died out so in 1204, what was left of the crusaders attacked Constantinople and destroyed many buildings and valuable items. The armies in Constantinople fought them and won. Constantinople lives to see another day. -

After the Western Church Proposed the Filioque Clause and Photius shot it down, The East had time to think about it. Both sides finally agreed on the Creed. -

Constantinople Falls
At sunrise the Turks attacked the city and overran it with army men. This wasn't the first attempt to overtake the city of Constantinople in 674 to 678 by the Arabian people. The Turks ravaged through the city taking only what wasn't nailed down. They destroyed the walls surround the city and then left it in shambles. This was the end for Constantinople. -

Major Decisions Change Easter!!!
In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII introduced the new Gregorian calendar to both the Eastern and Western churches. The East decided to keep their old Julian calendar which had been made before the Gregorian calendar. As a result, made the churches have different dates for Easter. This caused more conflict between the two churches.
