    On November 1st, 1755 in the city of Lisbon, Portugal a magnitude 9 earthquake hit the shore of the city creating a tsunami that ravaged the town and killed 20,000. Due to the time period, there is no accurate cost of the damage. The tsunami was so intense it washed up sunken merchant ships from the bottom of the ocean were washed ashore and the people of Lisbon rushed to the shore to loot the sunken ships.

    On August 26th, 1883 the famous volcano Krakatoa, in Java/Sumatra erupted and the vibration was so powerful that it created a tsunami killing 36,000 people. The price was not mentioned but the physical cost was 165 villages. The ash cloud spread for fifteen miles blocking out the sun.

    On April 1st, 1946 in the town of Aleutian, Alaska in the United States of America a magnitude 8.1 earthquake erupted in the pacific ocean creating a tsunami that killed 159 in Hawaii, 5 in Alaska, and 1 person in California. The price of all the damage in Hawaii, Alaska, and California would add up to be 300 million dollars. The deaths and damage pushed the united states into making the PTWC (the pacific tsunami warning system) to warn people and to prepare people for a tsunami.

    On May 23rd, 1960 off the coast of Chile, a 9.5 earthquake hit creating a tsunami that killed and injured 4 in Hawaii. the price in total was 21.5 million dollars in collateral damage. most of which the most damage was caused in Hawaii.

    On March 27th, 1946 In the state of Alaska of the United States of America. A Magnitude 9.2 earthquake Created the second biggest tsunami to ever hit the U.S in history. The overall death toll was 139 people in Alaska, 16 in Oregon and California. The Price of all of the damage combined was 311 million dollars.

    On July 12th, 1993 in the city of Hokkaido, Japan, A magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit off the Japanese coast and created a tsunami that ravaged the town killing 205 people. The price of all the damage cane to 300 million U.S dollars. It was one of the most disastrous tsunamis in Japanese history.

    On July 17th, 1998 off the coast of Papua new guinea, A magnitude 7 earthquake created a tsunami that killed 2700 and injuring thousands else. Millions of people were relocated or displaced.
  • The Sumatra Earthquake

    On December 26th, 2004 off the coast of Indonesia a magnitude 9.3 earthquake hit creating a massive tsunami that ravaged Indonesia. The tsunami killed 227,898 and injured countless, and missing more so. It is as known as the most fatal tsunami in human history. the Price of all the damage came to 15 billion dollars.

    On September 9th, 2009 in the American Samoan Islands a Magnitude 8.1 hit off the coast creating a tsunami that killed 189 people and cost up to 200 million dollars. statistically, this is the most fatal tsunami to hit American territory.

    On February 27th, 2010, off the coast of Chile, a Magnitude 8.1 earthquake hit creating a tsunami that came with little to no warning killed 525 people. the price, however, Skyrocketed to 15 billion due to lack of preparedness by destroying powerlines and gas stations.z

    On March 11th, 2011 off the coast of the Japanese peninsula, a Magnitude 9 earthquake hit and created a tsunami that killed 15,897. But the Price was 360 million due to the damage made by the tsunami that damaged a nuclear reactor that still is being cleaned up to this day
