Planetary Accretion
Formation of the Earth in the solar system commenced 4.567 billion years(rounded off to 5 billion years) ago and occurred on a time scale of about 100 million years. This process of accretion involves numerous collisions of Mars sized objects with Earth. -

Formation of the Moon
Around 4.5(rounded off to 5) billion years ago, after the formation of Earth, a big mars sized planet collided with the Earth throwing vaporised chunks of Earth into the space. The gravity bound these particles together to finally form the moon. -

Planetary Cooling
About 3.8(rounded off to 4) billion years ago, clumps of asteroids and meteors crashed together to form a planet in the shape of a sphere this was called the heavy bombardment. There were volcanic eruptions as well which contained magma . After the heavy bombardment the process of planetary cooling cooled down the crust of the Earth. -

Heavy Bombardment
Early Earth suffered constant threat of attack from leftover planet-building material. From 3.8(rounded off to 4) billion years ago, after the formation of Earth and moon, failed planets and smaller asteroids slammed into larger worlds, scarring their surface. After some time came the end of the violence and this period was known as the Late Heavy Bombardment/End of heavy bombardment . -
