Proclamation of 1763
After helping England win the French and Indian War, England gives the land of the Ohio River Valley to Native Americans. Colonists are forbidden (not allowed) to move across the Appalachian Mountains. -
First European settlers move to TN
These settlers are breaking the law. They found a settlement in east TN called Wautauga, and write a plan for self-governemnt called the Wautauga Compact. -

Cherokees attack settlers in east Tennessee
John Sevier leads the settlers in these attacks. Nancy Ward, a Cherokee woman, defends the settlers and tries to build peace between the two groups. -
Ft. Nashborough is founded
European groups have a difficult time traveling through Native attacks and the geography of Tennessee. Many die on the way, but finally this important settlement in Middle Tennessee begins. -
Battle of King's Mountain
Joshn Sevier leads the TN settlers to defend the United States against an attack of British soldiers during the American Revolution. The settlers win, and John Sevier is a hero!
