George Washington Elected
In this election, George Washington was unanimously elected for the first of his two terms as president, and John Adams became the first vice-president. Before this election, the United States had no chief executive. -

End of Whiskey Rebellion
President Washington and Alexander Hamilton set out at the head of 15,000 troops to suppress the "rebellion." The President left the expedition when the rebels scattered.
