  • Brown vs. The Board of Education

    Brown vs The Board of Education was the thing that kick started the Civil Rights Movement.1964 was when segregation ended and everyone can be in the same school together.
  • Head Start

    Head Start was the first publicly funded preschool program by President Johnson. The federal government helped create this half-day program for preschool children from low-income families. They were very popular but only 10% of children age 4-5 attended due to high popularity and a low budget.
  • Elementary and Secondary Education Act

    The Elementary and Secondary Education Act was an extensive statute that funded primary and secondary education. It also emphasizes equal access to education and establishes high standards and accountability.
  • IDEA

    IDEA stands for Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. IDEA was first created in 1975 and was called Education of Handicapped Children . The name was changed in 1990. IDEA is a law that requires free and appropriate educations for children with disabilities.
  • The Imperative for Educational Reform

    The Imperative for Educational Reform was created by the U.S. Department of Education. This reform created the National Commission on Excellence which was to provide a report about the quality of schools and education in America.
  • Educate America Act

    The Educate America Act was created and designed to help ensure children will reach higher levels of achievement.
  • No Child Left Behind

    The No Child Left Behind Act was a reform of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. The No Child Left Behind Act came to be in 2001. It is built on four principles accountability, choices for parents, local control and flexibility, and doing what works.
  • Common Core Standards

    The Common Core Standards are standards that are the same for each state. This makes it so the children who are learning in California are learning the same stuff at the same speed as someone in Vermont.
