The Battle of Baltimore, fought from September 12-14, 1814, was a significant turning point in the War of 1812. After burning Washington D.C., British forces targeted Baltimore. American forces held their ground, saving the city. This event inspired Francis Scott Key to write "The Star-Spangled Banner," the National Anthem of the United States.
