William of Normandy Conquers England
After defeating the English forces and fighting the historic Battle of Hastings, William "THe Conqueror" became king of England. He reined untill his death in 1087. -

The Magna Carta
King John of England was forced to sign the Magna Carta. This gave more power to parliament and took most of the king's power away. -

Christopher Columbus discovers America
The Italian born explorer was the first European since Leif Erikson. Funded by the Spanish King and Queen he declared the lands he found for Spain. He died thinking that he had found a new rout to Eastern Asia. -

John Cabot explores North America
Sent by Henry VII of England, Cabot laid claim to North America for England. He landed here in the summer of 1496. -

Protestant Reformation
the reformation started when Martin Luther posted his 95 grievances against the Catholic Church in 1517. It lasted over 100 years while people's thoughts and beliefs about the church and Christian faith were drastically changing. -
Jamestown, VA
Set on the James River, this was the first settlement in America. Although at first they almost died out, they became successful and prosperous. -
Salutary Neglect
The Salutary Neglect was when the British government increased the amount they enforced law to hold the colonies in check. It was a passive aggressive way to maintain control. -
House of Burgesses
The House of Burgesses was the first legislative body in the American Colonies. 11 Colonies were represented and met in 1619. -
Pilgrims come on the Mayflower
The Pilgrims, who came to America for religious freedom, landed in Plymouth near Cape Cod. They suffered many hardships, but eventually made alliances with the natives. This made them become a very successful settlement. -
Puritan Migration
English people, especially Puritans, migrated. Massachusetts was one of the main colonies that these settlers moved. -
Nathaniel Bacon’s Rebellion
Virginia settlers, led by Nathaniel Bacon, rebelled against the Governor, William Berkeley. They were eventually defeated by British reinforcements. This was the first rebellion in the colonies. -
The Enlightenment
European politics, ideals, and culture were changing dramatically. This lasted for over a century. -
The Great Awakening
During the Great Awakening, the church had a complete revival. Many preachers had huge followings and converted thousands of people. -
French and Indian War
France had expanded into the Ohio River Valley where Britain had laid claim. This caused conflict to rise until war broke out. -
Proclamation of 1763
King George III signed this to end the French and Indian war. This forbade any settlement past the Appalachian mountains. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was passed by British Parliament. This made it so all colonists had to pay tax on all paper that they used. Colonist were outraged and demanded repeal. -
Townshend Acts
British parliament passed the townshend acts to increase taxes on the colonies. This included the tax on tea which later became a large issue. -
Boston “Massacre”
British soldiers killed five colonial citizens in Boston. This caused huge protests and conflicts. -
Boston Tea Party
The Sons of Liberty, a colonial protest group, dumped crates of tea into the Boston Harbor. This was in response to Britain keeping the tax on tea. -
First Continental Congress
12 of the 13 colonies met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to discuss the "Intolerable Acts" that Britain had just passed. This would lead to the revolution and America's war for independence. -
Second Continental Congress
The Continental Congress moves towards war with Britain. They developed plans, treaties, elected offices and other preparatory measures for fighting for independence. -
Declaration of Independence
The United States of America is officially born. By being signed we were declared a free nation and our war with Britain began. (This was the greatest moment of history and everything before it was a mistake(except Jesus)) -
Treaty of Paris 1783
This treaty ended America's war with Britain. Britain officially recognized America as an independant nation. It also established THe United States borders.
