Dylan's Reading Timeline

  • Dr Seuss (age 3)

    Dr Seuss (age 3)
As a little kid Dr. Seuss's books were the only thing that I really took an interest in reading. My mom use to sit with me in our old house's hallway for nights on end reading all of Dr. Seuss's books.
  • Favorite Video Game - kingdom hearts (age 5)

Favorite Video Game - kingdom hearts (age 5)
I consider this a reading event because the game itself didn't have constant cutscenes you actually had to take the time to read some conversations that were being had between the characters to understand what was going on in the story and to me it was really an event of my own making because I loved to sit there hours on end playing this game over and over again and no matter how many times that i played the game i never skipped a single conversation that was being had in the game.
  • Star Student (age 6)

    Star Student (age 6)
This was a poster that we had to fill out in our 3rd grade class and we had to resent it in front of the class when we were "star student." A lot has changed since then but it is still cool to look back on
  • Reading class (age 7)

when i was in elementary i was a little below average when it came to reading so i would always have to go into a room with other teachers and practice reading while everyone else got to go out to recess. It was not fun at all as a kid because obviously i would rather be outside hanging with my friends but instead i had to sit in a class room and practice reading which was never fun but in the long run helped me stay on track and with the rest of my grade.
  • MySpace (age 8)

The first time I ever used a computer i made a myspace to kinda copy my sister because she had one at the time. I really only used it cause i though that it was super cool that you could personalize your own page by putting music and a theme but now i don't really look at it as something that is super cool anymore because people wouldn't really like my death metal music
  • Interpretive Reading (age 8)

    Interpretive Reading (age 8)
This was one of those events that a kid like me absolutely hated. I had never been good at getting up in front of people and speaking or even reading and I would always be so embarrassed because I've never been a very good reader either I would always avoid a book at all costs. And for some reason I had decided to read "The Big Toe." I remember reading it because it was actually a really creepy story at the time cause I had a pretty crazy imagination.
  • Happy Joe's Reading Reward (age 9)

Happy Joe's Reading Reward (age 9)
when i was younger i use to get reading logs and if i had read so much then i would get a free buffet at happy joes in janesville which is now macs pizza shack. anyways at the time it was actually just motivation just to go get free pizza and really that's all i really needed was that little motivation for pizza and i would read like a 100 pages and I would feel accomplished while i stuffed my face with their amazing bread sticks and pizza
  • Milton Public Library (age 10)

My first library card was a blessing and a curse because I only liked using the library card to rent movies from the library but my mom would always expect me to bring home a book and she would get mad when all that i came home with were movies. It was my netflix before netflix and it was pretty great even though they didn't really have a wide variety to choose from.
  • First Book (that i willingly read) - age 13

Harry Potter was the very first book that I actually sat down and read. I love being nerdy and geeking out over things and besides Star Wars, Harry Potter comes in with a close second and i was very impatient with how long it would take for them to come out with the movies so i sat and i read the books just so i could finish the amazing story that is Harry Potter and on top of that I am actually willingly reading the "cursed child" which is a play about Harry potters son.
  • Theater (age 14-15)

    Theater (age 14-15)
I was never a part of the actual play but I did stage crew back in middle school for both beauty and the beast and aladdin. The both were two movies that i love and when i was in stage crew i knew almost every single line, every single song and gesture from the play even though i was too nervous to actually participate i could have been a back up for literally anyone in the play because i spent so much time behind the curtain learning the play from listening and watching it over and over again.
  • Period: to

    Art (Age 15-19)

To me there are more ways to be creative and open about how you feel and to me that is expressing things through art work no matter how big or small an art piece can be it can tell a story just by the image. Art has always been my way of expressing a meaning or even a story from within and i've been in love with that idea since i took my first art class in high school.
  • The Great Gatsby (age 16)

    The Great Gatsby (age 16)
As a high school student i really had no interest with reading I would but i was forced to sit and read this book and it actually turned out pretty well I would say that the movie is just a little better than the book but thats coming from someone who would much rather watch a 3 hour long movie than sit there and read a book for days on end.
  • The Worst English Teacher Ive ever had (age 16)

My sophomore year was not pleasant when it came down to english and writing papers or doing book reports. I had a teacher who always gave me the shittiest grades even though i never actually did as bad as he claimed I had. It might have been his way of motivating me to try and do better but it really only stressed me out and made me do worse because i would lose my focus because i was stressing about my grades and everything else that this teacher threw at me.
  • Poetry Slam (age 17-18)

    Poetry Slam (age 17-18)
When I was a Junior in high school I use to go out with friends all the time and listen to poetry slams. I never actually participated my friends did every once in awhile but I would just go to listen. I always found what people had to say to be strikingly interesting and somehow relatable.
  • The worst speech ever (age 17)

One time my Senior year of high school i was in a speech class, and everyone had to come up with an instructive speech on how to do something and me being the person i am completely forgot about the assignment but i needed a grade because i wasn't the best student at the time so I got up in front of the class and taught everybody how to tie their shoes and somehow managed to get a B even though it was literally all being pulled right out of my ass just because i forgot about the assignment.
  • Speech class (age 19)

I'm terrible at being in front of people, or even talking to them really. So this semester i forced myself to take a public speaking class to help me get over the fear of getting in front of people and speaking or presenting information. So far its coming along i've had to write multiple speeches of my own on many topics that i am actually really passionate about and it helps calm my nerves when i'm passionate about the topic that i am presenting to people.
  • Dank Memes (age 19-tbd)

    Dank Memes (age 19-tbd)
something that i do enjoy reading or looking at are "memes" i literally sit there for hours just looking at memes. They are absolutely wonderful and really the only thing that i share on facebook a majority of the time they are star wars related memes but there are always exceptions depending on the type of "dank meme."
