  • First ariel attack

    One of the first recorded ariel strikes was in 1849 Austria launched over 200 hot air balloons carrying bombs which were sent to Venice.

  • Kettering Bug

    1915 Charles Kettering tested a pilotless biplane called the Kettering Bug that, by the standards of the day, was on the leading edge of military technology. Six feet wing span, five feet long and powered by a Ford engine, it was designed to take off from a track and fly toward enemy lines. At a certain time the wings would detach and the plane, which could carry a 250-pound explosives, would hit the ground and explode. The U.S. Army built about 50 Kettering Bugs.

  • World War 1 Surveillance

    In World War I, aerial surveillance was used a lot. The Royal Flying Corps took over 19,000 aerial photographs and collected 430,000 prints during the five months of the Battle of the Somme in 1916.

  • Japenese Balloon Bombs

    In 1945 a Japanese balloon bomb kills six people in rural eastern Oregon. They are the only World War II U.S. combat casualties in the 48 states.

  • U.S start surveillance in Cuba

    U.S start to send drones to do surveillance over Cuba (just before Missile crisis)

  • U.S launch the Predator UAV drone

    1995 the U.S Military’s UAV was launched at a cost of $40 million. Model is called MQ-1 Predator. The predator is used predominantly over Iraq and Afghanistan.

  • Predator Drone in Afghanistan

    4th feb 2002, CIA used the first unmanned predator drone in a targeted killing, in Paktia province in Afghanistan. The intended target was Osama Bin Laden but ended up killing civilians.

  • CIA Drone Strikes in Pakistan

    CIA drone strikes in Pakistan. 2004-Present. 175 children 2743 people recorded dead. 392 people of which are civilians, thus meaning the majority killed have been militants.

  • Obama Drone Campaign

    Obama drone campaign in 2012, since then the U.S have carried out over 239 drone strikes, predominantly in the middle-east, countries like Iraq, Afghanistan. Obama has approved over 44 times more drone strikes the president George. W. Bush did.

    Al Qaeda leader killed possibly responsible for Paris shooting in Yemen by a drone. Jan 2015.
