Rafeal Almeida and Armando Marsans joined the Cincinnati Reds of the National League in 1911. They were only allowed admission into the league because their skin was light enough not to be considered "dark-skin" by the league. -
Jackie Robinson wins MVP
In 1949 Jackie Robinson, who also won Rookie of the Year in 1947, becomes the first minority to win MVP in the MLB. He made the all-star team and led the league in batting average. -
First Asian in the MLB
Masanori Murakami sees success as a relief pitcher for the San Francisco Giants at the age of 20. Through his two seasons in the MLB he played in 54 games, striking out 100 batters and earning 5 wins. -
First Minority Umpire
On April 11 Emmett Ashford makes his MLM umpire debut in D.C. Stadium. He quickly became a sensation, becoming known for sprinting around the infield after foul balls or plays on the bases. He went on to umpire an All Star game and the 1970 World Series. -

Following a short playing in the MLB Cuban-born Preston Gomez is hired by the San Diego Padres to be their manager. Although he finished his career as a manger in 1980 with a losing record he was known as an aggressive manager unafraid to take risks. -

With 27.7% latinos, 10.4% blacks, and 2% asians comprising team rosters the league has their most diverse season in terms of roster makeup in its history. -
Diversity Fellowship Program
The MLB begins to offer fellowship programs to people of color and females. Those selected work in baseball operations, rules and regulations, and in the league economic department. Commissioner Rob Manfred states "This new initiative is one of our most significant efforts to recruit the most talented array of diverse individuals who are interested in pursuing a long-term career in baseball." -
2018 World Series
The Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers matchup marks the first World Series matchup between two managers of minority. After being former teammates on the Dodgers and both winning a World Series as a player in Boston, the Red Sox' Alex Cora and the Dodger's Dave Roberts manage their teams to the October Classic.
