    President Donald Trump really used social media during his first campaign for office. He also continues to use social media during his presidency to inform, and express himself. He continues also to use platforms, mainly twitter, during his second run at office.
  • #Metoo

    The #Metoo movement did start back in 2006, however, with the increase in popularity in social media, it comes with an increased awareness of this movement. I think that this is largly because the name of the movement is a social media term, using the hashtag symbol. This hashtag has been used more than 200 million times.
  • Covid-19

    The corona Virus needs no introduction. Word of the virus went from zero to one hundred through social media. Everyone can post their opinions on the matter, their worries, and concerns. I think the biggest effect of the virus in social media was how we all need to use it more, and should have a greater appreciation for it because of the minimal physical contact we can have, we are forced to use Instagram, Facebook, and video chatting like Zoom.
  • Black Lives Matter

    The Black Lives Matter movement has been around for many many years, however, with recent events in the past years of Black Americans being killed, or mistreated, their cause has grown. The growth is largely due to the increase of filming and documenting incidents, which spread through social media. Social media also helps spread word of protests, rallies, and opinions on this matter.
  • Kobe Bryant Death

    The death of Kobe Bryant, spread through social media like wildfire. Seeing how many people had posted about him, and showed their love to him and all those lost in the crash was definitely a disruption. There were a lot of things going on in the worlds at the time, and the world would never think that an accident like that would happen to someone of his status. It was interesting to see also the conspiracy theories that quickly arose about his death, which most were seen on Twitter
