Facebook and Instagram weren't accessible for about 12 hours in March of 2019. I think they worked slightly for some, but it was impossible to get on for most people. This was a crazy event because nothing like it had happened since 2008. -

Tiktok exploded in 2020, and the most popular creators quickly became almost as well known as our favorite actors and singers, making them celebrities. This has never happened before, and many people hate that they have such fame from no obvious talent. -
BLM protests spread across the country
With the death of George Floyd came a flood of outrage on social media. The videos being shared across Instagram angered so many and caused action as BLM protests popped up all over the country and so many were posting about it all over social media platforms. -
2020 Election
I think the election was a big disruption on social media because it was different from what people usually talk about on social media. I think people's votes were hugely swayed by what was on social media. I've seen social media to be predominantly democrat so uneducated voters could have been swayed to vote this way. Tactics were to be loud, outspoken, voice your true opinions, and maybe even use false information for your arguments.
