    This series of up rises was influenced heavily by technologies including texting, blogs, videos, Twitter, and Facebook. Nine out of ten Egyptians and Tunisians said that they used Facebook to organize protests or raise awareness. Facebook was the primary form of communication in Arab Spring. Much of the passing information was communicated through Facebook groups. YouTube was especially utilized to share the protests with the outside world.
  • Police Brutality

    Police Brutality
    While police brutality is not uncommon throughout history, 2014 was a year that had a spotlight on police brutality. A huge reason that this occurred was because of cellphones with video cameras, and the internet. These videos were spread across the nation, and even globally, and got the attention of people everywhere. Twitter and Facebook were especially instrumental in spreading the videos and allowing people to talk about the issue.
  • Paris Attacks

    Paris Attacks
    In the 2016 Paris attacks, hashtags played a huge part. The tag #rechercheParis was a way for Paris residents to find surviving friends and family members, and the tag #porteOuverte allowed people to show their support for those affected by the attacks and to help those who were prevented from returning to their homes. Twitter had a huge impact on the attacks becoming a topic that was talked about globally.
  • Las Vegas Shooting

    Las Vegas Shooting
    In wake of the very recent mass shooting in Las Vegas, social media played a large role in accounting for friends and family members. Within hours, videos of the shooting were spread across Facebook. Facebook also immediately created a space that allowed those who were in Las Vegas at the time to make if they were "safe." Social media played a role in helping guide those in need to food banks and encouraged others to donate blood to help the victims.
  • Putin Memes

    Putin Memes
    In an effort to bring attention to Russia's Anti-Gay laws, protesters began photoshopping Putin in Drag. Through remixing, those photos became viral online, and began to be more and more extravagant. Because of the use of social media, and especially Twitter, this issue went from a national level to a global scale.
