Parler was taken up as the app of choice for conservatives looking to evade censorship on other social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter. Calls for insurrection increased on the right-leaning social media app as Donald Trump urged his followers on there to march on the U.S. Capitol. -
US Capitol
Due to the insurrection he led on Parler and multiple offenses on
platorms, Twitter and Facebook made the decision to permanently ban
Donald J. Trump from their platorms after he led the upsrising on
on the US Capitol into action, which lead to the deaths of five individuals including an on duty police officer. -
Reddit
Some people on Reddit noticed some people short-selling
Gamestop stocks (GME), trying to lower GameStop's value to make money. The subreddit began “mass-buying” to increase the company's value and make these investment funds lose money. The people from the subreddit made lots of profit, and Wall Street suffered millions in losses due to these investment funds, which were close to bankruptcy. -
Derek Chauvin
Derek Chauvin, a former Minneapolis Police Officer, was
found guilty of the murder of George Floyd after video captured
of the arrest and alleged murder went viral online and all over
social media, leading to protest nationwide. The ability for video
to go viral on social media platforms led to the case being made.
