It originated through protests in Tunisia and used text, video and other forms of social media to engage others to educate and bring together protesters. -

ASL Ice Bucket Challenge
The first of a movement of involved challenges inspired by foundations and facilitated trough the use of the internet. The ice bucket challenge used facebook, hashtags, and youtube videos to spread the message and encourage others to follow to bring attention to ASL. -
The Me Too Movement
Taking a phrase originating in 2008, the hastag MeToo movement used social media as a means of allowing women and men to speak up about their experiences with sexual assault and abuse. This hastag used through twitter, facebook, and instagram united individuals with shared experiences and created a mass movement including marches and public acknowledgements of abuse leading to arrests like Harvey Weinstein. -
Women's March
The women's march movement spread through many forms of social media culminated in a mass worldwide protest of women for womens rights. This was accompanied by facebook pages and groups Instagram, and hashtags on twitter united women in support of women;s rights.
