Discontent Grows

  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 is the French Transferring over the land they had in North American after the seven years war to America. Great Britain prohibited the Colonies from settling on this newly acquired land.
The Colonies were angry because they had helped Great Britain in the Seven Years war and they did not even get a piece of the land that they had won.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
Great Britain decided to put a tax on Sugar a Malaises.
This was bad for the Colonies since one of their main exports were rum which was made using these taxed ingredients.
  • Currency Act

    Currency Act
This act would prohibit the colonies from printing their own currency for their colonies.
This upset the Colonies since this meant there was nothing that had value except good so all they could do was trade instead of buying.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
The Stamp Act would tax playing cards, dice, and every almost every type of paper.
The Colonies hated this tax because they used paper in their everyday life with newspapers, deeds and so on. The Colonies would be killed if they tried to counterfeit their stamps from the government.
  • Quartering Act 1765

    Quartering Act 1765
The Quartering Act of 1765 forced legislators to pay for housing for the soldiers. The only difference between this is 1765 and 1774 is that this one prohibited the soldiers from being housed in private homes.
The Colonies really disliked this since they lost money but they could not really do anything because they would be killed if they try to revolt.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
The Declaratory Act caused the Stamp Act to be reappealed and also it allowed British parliament to pass any law that they see fit.
The Colonies hated this because they had zero say in both the stamp act being reappealed and parliament passing the law that could completely control the colonies.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
This act would put a tax on more refined items like glass, lead, tea, and paper.
This would cause many problems since it not only resembled the stamp act, but other factors like tea would affect the Colonies' economy since tea had become very popular among the Colonies.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre happened when soldiers were holding back a group of Colonial protestors when the soldiers said they had heard a shot from the crowd so they saw that as a sign to open fire into the crowd of civilians.
The Colonies hated this and used this event as propaganda to show how harsh Great Britain was being towards them.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party happened when a few Colonials with Native American masks on rushed a boat full of tea and dumped all of it into the water because tea was of big importance to Great Britain.
The Colonies used this event as a start of a revolution because this was one of many revolts that they would have before the big revolution.
  • The Intolerable Act

    The Intolerable Act
The Intolerable act was set in place after and because of the Boston Tea Party. Great Britain would close down the ports of Boston which was one of the main places in the colonies they needed for trades. Great Britain would hold this over them until they had paid for the tea they dumped.
The colonies were steered up into outraged as hundreds of people would lose money from the port closing and this was unfair to them since Great Britain shouldn't have the power to do such a thing.
  • Quartering Act 1774

    Quartering Act 1774
The Quartering Act of 1774 allowed British soldiers to be housed in both public and private home which caused even more problems for the colonies.
The Colonials saw this as unfair but could not do much since going up against the act would result in death.
  • Quebec Act

    Quebec Act
The Quebec Act allowed Catholic French speaking people to settling on the land in Canada that Great Britain had won from the war.
The Colonies did not like this at all which would lead to the revolution since some colonials had stakes on that land which was just stripped away from them.
