    The Wurundjeri Balluk people use the lower Yarra as valuable source of food. They also used it as a meeting place for trade, marriage and other cerimonies. It is still an important spiritual place for the Wurundjeri people today.

    Charles Grimes is believed to be the first european to explore the Yarra River. He led his team on a river expedition to the Yarra Falls ( Dights Falls).

  • John Dight

    John Dight purchased Melbourne block 88 which included 26 acres of the Yarra River. Dight was already in the flourmill business so built a water powered mill on the edge of the Yarra.
