The Traditional Owners of the Lower Yarra
The Wurundjeri Balluk people use the lower Yarra as valuable source of food. They also used it as a meeting place for trade, marriage and other cerimonies. It is still an important spiritual place for the Wurundjeri people today. -
Charles Grimes
Charles Grimes is believed to be the first european to explore the Yarra River. He led his team on a river expedition to the Yarra Falls ( Dights Falls). -
John Dight
John Dight purchased Melbourne block 88 which included 26 acres of the Yarra River. Dight was already in the flourmill business so built a water powered mill on the edge of the Yarra.
