Charles grimes discovers the Yarra river and deems it a good place for settlement. It was the start of European settlement on the Yarra River. -
A flour mill is built, powered by water.
A man named John Dight bought some land around the Yarra River. Having been in the flour mill buisness for a while he built a flour mill made from bricks imported from Tasmania. After his mill was built he also built a Weir in the Yarra River so there would always be water to power his mill. -
The flour mill was destroyed by fire
After changing ownership many times, the flour mill, built by John, was destroyed in fire. -
The first repair
The first documented repair on the weir at Dights falls was on 1918. -
A flood damages the weir.
A flood breaches the weir causing it to have to be rebuilt. 1.5 tonnes of rock have to be distributed away from the weir. -
Further damage to the weir.
Heavy rainfall caused floods to wash away and destroy the timber decking and the rock fill. -
A fish way is built
Humans realised that the weir was stopping fish from migrating from the fresh water to the salt water. A stone fishway was built to let fish pass but it was still difficult for the fish. -
