Dight in flour milling
John Dight already had a job, he was in the business of flour milling. He was working in a flour mill called Ceres near Campbell Town in NSW. He had told everyone he was leaving to travel to Port Phillip through the Sydney Herald. -
First steam powered mill
The first steam powered mill was built in Melbourne but John Dight had built his own water powered mill shortly after, it was built with bricks from Tasmania . He used the river to power his mill, he made sure that the river flow was low. -
Original weir
Part of the original weir was removed so it could no longer be seen, but once the new weir was built bits of the original weir were likely to continue underwater. -
Rock Fishway
A rock fishway was built in 1993 to help fish pass through the Yarra river but now it is very ineffective so then people had decided to build a vertical slot fishway so it would increase the diversity of native fish in the Yarra river
