Greg's Homework
Greg felt like he was in middle school forever and he needed to mix things up a little. In the first week of school, Greg volunteers for the Homework Buddies Program. Greg chose that program just so he could skip period 3 with Mrs. Graziano (crazy and old teacher). Greg finds a buddy called Frew. Frew is a really intelligent kid. Greg would have a bunch of homework but Frew would finish it for him fast and correctly. Greg would receive good marks on all of his assignments with the help of Frew. -
Grandpa's Party
Greg's grandpa moved in with Greg's family after he broke up with his girlfriend, Darlene. Greg doesn't enjoy his grandpa being around so he introduces online dating to his grandpa. His grandpa now stays on the computer 24 hours a day. The Heffley family went out to check on Rodrick's job which left grandpa home alone. Greg's family came back seeing cars parked on the lawn. As the family walked in, they saw a raging party going on. Greg's dad puts grandpa into time-out as an awkward punishment. -
The Lemonade Stand
As summer vacation starts, Greg realizes that he could make money to buy his own essentials. He needed a partner to open up the lemonade stand with him so Greg chooses his best friend Rowley. The most important part of a lemonade stand is making the lemonade but Greg and Rowley didn't know how to make lemonade. They guessed through the ingredients and mess up. However, Greg's dad explains to them how to make lemonade. Their lemonade gets criticized by customers as they don't stir the sugar right -
Electronics-free
Greg's mom thought that kids these days are on their phones all day. So she came up with this electronics-free idea but she needed 100 signatures to approve it at the Town Hall. The way she got her signatures was by talking to the partygoers as they were leaving Grandpa's party last night. Greg's mom got all the signatures she needed and took it to the Town Hall, the leaders made it official. On Saturday, the whole town was going to voluntarily unplug for the weekend. Greg didn't like this idea. -
Cleaning the park
Since it was the electronic-free weekend, Greg's neighborhood came to the town park to clean it up. Greg ran into his mom and his mom told him to help clean up. Greg couldn't disobey his mom so he started cleaning. The whole park cleanup effort was disorganized and chaotic. It got crazier when prisoners got dropped off in a bus at the park but rather than helping, they just started to goofing off. Later on, a huge group of Girl Scouts came and put everyone to work and whipped them into shape. -
Escaping the park
Girl Scouts put people into groups, Greg was in a group with his homework buddy Frew. The Girl Scouts were working hard on everyone and didn't let anyone go home until everything was clean. Greg had enough and couldn't take it anymore so he tried to escape and go to the creek. he was successful. Then, Frew and Billy (Rodrick's friend) followed Greg to the creek. They were then spotted by the Girl Scouts and they all ran. Greg's mom later caught them and Greg blamed the whole situation on Billy. -
Water leakage from the ceiling
Greg's dad got strict with him after he heard about what happened to him at the town park. His dad hates it when he doesn't put the cap of the toothpaste on. One day Greg was brushing his teeth, and his hands were slippery and the cap fell down the drain. Greg panicked and still couldn't find it. He opened the cabinet and the plastic tube, which started spraying the water and made a huge puddle. Greg ran downstairs to the laundry room to get a towel, but he saw water leaking from the ceiling. -
The Car Crash
Since the ceiling started leaking, grandpa told Greg that there's a special paint that covers water stains. On their way to the hardware store, grandpa told Greg that he didn't have a license which got feeling Greg worried. They later ran out of gas. Grandpa walked to a nearby gas station and left Greg alone in the car. As Greg was waiting, he saw the kid he blamed, Billy. So he hid underneath the dashboard. As he got up, the handle of the car moved which made the car move and end up in a ditch. -
Going to camp
Greg didn't want to go to the Hard Scrabble farms. Since his dad was going to be mad at him for what he did to the car, Greg had to go to the camp so he could get away from his dad. As he got there, he realized how bad the camp was. No junk food was allowed, the bathrooms were dirty and the food being served there was horrible. At the end of every meal, you have to put all your leftovers in a pot for kids to eat later on. The camp was awful but it was Greg's only option to get away from his dad. -
Silas Scratch
While Greg was at camp, he heard everyone talk about this person called Silas Scratch. Silas Scratch was a farmer at Hardscrabble farms a long time ago. The county then came and kicked him off his land. Now he has very long fingernails and survives in the forest eating slugs and berries. One of their chaperones even said that a student went into the woods and came across Silas Scratches' shack. When the kid came back, he was never the same. Greg found this really disturbing and didn't like this. -
Silas Scratch's Shack
Greg's group's chaperone got sick and was sent home. They had to find a new chaperone and got Greg's dad to be the chaperone. His dad seemed to know everything since he came to Hardscrabble Farms when he was Greg's age. When everyone was having lunch, some kids mentioned how they saw a shack while they were in the forest looking for firewood. Greg's told everyone that when he went to Hardscrabble Farms, a couple of kids went near Silas Sctraches shack and were never heard from again. -
The truth
Greg goes to the forest looking for firewood until he saw Silas Scratches' shack. He got curious and went inside of it. Apparently, it was a maintenance shed with clean bathrooms. Greg bumped into his dad in the bathroom taking a shower. His dad told him that when he came to hardscrabble farms at a young age, the bathroom situation was worse. So he found this shed with clean bathrooms and kept it a secret. That's why Greg's dad made up the story of Silas Scratch and it's been going on for years.
