    Edmond Albius discovered how to pollinate the flowers quickly by hand, the pods began to thrive. Soon, the tropical orchids were sent from Réunion to the Comoros Islands, Seychelles, and Madagascar, along with instructions for pollinating them. By 1898, Madagascar, Réunion, and the Comoros Islands produced 200 metric tons of vanilla beans, about 80% of world production in that year.

    Emperor Napoleon III of France offered a prize to anyone who could make a satisfactory butter alternative, suitable for use by the military and the poor.[2][12] French chemist Hippolyte Mège-Mouriès invented a substance he called oleomargarine, which became shortened to the trade name margarine. Mège-Mouriès patented the concept in 1869 and expanded his initial manufacturing operation from France, but had little commercial success.

    Ten years later, the company introduced the first instant ramen noodle product, Chikin Ramen (Chicken Ramen). Soon thereafter, the company name was changed to Nissin Food Products Co., Ltd. (日清食品株式会社, Nisshin Shokuhin Kabushiki-gaisha). The company established a US subsidiary Nissin Foods in 1970 and, starting in 1972, sold instant ramen noodle products under the name Top Ramen. Instant noodles (1958) and Cup Noodles (1971) were both invented by Momofuku Ando.
