John Oxley - 1824
In 1824, John Oxley - a surveyor - found Brisbane River while trying to find a place for the prisoners, who would need somewhere else to go. -
Redcliffe - 1824
Redcliffe was the first site chosen for the colony in 1824. -
Redcliffe Abandoned - 1825
In 1825, Redcliffe was abandoned in favour of what is now known as Brisbane City. They chose a location where the Brisbane River creates a loop around the land, making it very hard for prisoners to escape. -
Captain Patrick Logan - 1826
In 1826 Captain Logan - he is infamous for his floggings - took charge of the Moreton Bay colony and declared that the convicts would be harshly disciplined. -
Little Had Been Done - 1826
Little had been done when he arrived in 1826, so Logan immediately started to develop the colony by planting cornfields and other crops to supply food. -
Bye, Bye Logan - 1830
On October 17th 1830, Logan was killed by indigenous Australians while exploring the upper the upper section of the Brisbane River. Logan and his party had been warned but he didn't listen (obviously) and got himself killed.
