    In antiquity, the Philippines was a vibrant culture with one main ethnicity, one basic language, and several ancient religious practices. The main ethnic group of the Philippines was the *NEGRITO PEOPLE. Their main language at this time was *TAI-KADAI(a language under the Sino-Tibetan umbrella) and another branch of Tai-Kadai *TAGALOG. The two main ancient religious practices were *SHAMANISM(The belief that a being can talk and communicate to spirits for guidance), and *ANCESTOR WORSHIP.

    Malay people MIGRATED(moved a long distance) to the Philippines circa AD. and had such a great impact that they influenced the island’s ethnicities massively. The seafaring *MALAY PEOPLE came down from Southeast Asia(modern-day Indonesia)in the hope to uncover new land. In their scramble, they spread their ethnicity to the *VAST(wide) population of the Philippines.

    In 1570, the Spanish took over the Philippines which started the widespread practice of the *CHRISTIAN RELIGION. The main reason why the Spanish ventured down to the Philippines is that they wanted to convert the Filipinos to Christianity, and wanted to develop contact with China + Japan.

These three ethnic groups speak the same languages, primarily English. The majority of the Filipinos are *Christian (95%) and (5%) Muslim.
