Congress passes compromise of 1850
The Compromise of 1850 was proposed by Henry Clay. The compromise prevented further territorial expansion of slavery while strengthening the Fugitive Slave Act. -
Two regions in seperate paths
The South had a slow change in population growth. While the North had accepted industrialization, large urban areas and high birth rates. This incline of population doomed the south to try and maintain balance in their government. -

Harriet Tubman Beecher published the most popular novel of it's time. It showed the slaves life as nightmares of cruelty. -
Abolitionism
This was a movement to get rid of slavery. It was a movement to end the African and Indian slave trade and to set slaves free. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
This act created the territories of Kansas and Nebraska. It opened new lands for settlements. -
The Dred Scott Decision
Dred Scott was an African American slave who was taken by his owners to free states and territories, attempted to sue for his freedom. -
