    Civil Rights Movement
    The civil rights movement was one of the most powerful movements in the entire nation's history. Throughout the movement, civil injustices and social unbalance were highlighted. Many popular figures like that of MLK, Malcom X, and Rosa Parks rose around this time in order to lead and offer solutions to these problems. Eventually, the movement led to the end of discrimination depending on race almost all throughout the nation.

    Brown v. Board of Education
    The case of Brown versus board of education of topeka highlighted the injustices of the american school system. It showed the extreme racism that African American school children faced when attending or trying to attend public school. The case ended with the declaration that the idea of "Separate but equal" was a false doctrine. Video
  • Vietnam war

    Vietnam war
    The Vietnam war(began in 1955) was one of the most controversial wars the United States has ever been involved in. It was an effort to stop north Vietnam from taking control of south Vietnam and making it communist. The war lasted for much longer than expected and gained a very negative image from the public. Eventually(in 1975), the US was forced to retract its forces from the country and the entirety of Vietnam fell to communist rule. Video
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott

    Montgomery Bus Boycott
    As part of the Civil Rights Movement, the Montgomery Bus Boycott highlighted the segregation that occurred on public transportation throughout the south. The boycott started in December of 1955 and lasted until December of the following year. The movement was so powerful that the United States Supreme court decided that segregation on buses was unconstitutional.

    The Hippie Movement started in San Francisco in the 60s and lasted for quite a long time. The movement saw many peculiar changes in the nation's youth and resulted in a lot of the culture that we see today. The movement pushed towards a very laid-back and simple lifestyle. This was met with a great deal of push-back from many conservative individuals.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    This event was the closest that america had ever gotten to total nuclear war with the USSR. This event took place In October of 1962, and was a response to the failed Bay of Pigs invasion. The main threat was the missiles that were spotted on the Cuban mainland and were believed to have been pointed towards the United States. The crisis was ended with a compromise in which the US agreed to remove its missiles from turkey if the USSR removed its missiles from cuba.Video
  • Integration at The University of Alabama

    Integration at The University of Alabama
    The university of Alabama was predominately white until 1963, when governor George Wallace was forced by the national guard to end his blockade of the university. Before that, the governor wanted to hold on to segregation and refused to admit blacks into the place of learning. He utilized the local police dept. to prevent entry until president Kennedy made the decision to use force and send in the almighty national guard in order to end the blockade.
  • John F. Kennedy

    John F. Kennedy
    JFK was the 35th president of the united states and one of the most influential presidents at that. He offered the most support for the Civil Rights movement and even proposed the civil rights bill, which would end segregation in the entire nation. It all ended on November 22, 1963, while Kennedy was riding in his motorcade through Dallas, Texas, he was shot and killed.

    Malcolm X
    Malcom X was an African-American Muslim and a very influential leader during the civil rights movement. Initially, Malcolm would often push a very violent agenda and proposed harsh punishment towards those who opposed African Americans. This ideology of his soon changed to a more peaceful one, but it was short lived as he was assassinated in 1965.

    Black Panther Movement
    The BPM was one of the serious and passionate African-American movements during the 60's. It challenged the behavior of police officers and police brutality in California. Overall, the movement sought to promote Black Nationalism, and eventually it spread all throughout the nation.
  • Martin Luther King Jr.

    Martin Luther King Jr.
    MLK was one of the most influential proponents of the Civil Rights Movement. He would often speak of peaceful protest and nonviolent interference as being the key to ending the social injustices that occurred throughout the nation. One of his most famous speeches was his "I have a dream" speech during the march on Washington. It was heard by hundreds of thousands of people, and it marked a turning point in the civil rights movement.

    Apollo 11
    The Apollo 11 moon landing was one of the highlights of the space race. It was the first time that a country sent a man onto the moon, and it showed the superiority that America had over the USSR. It was an extremely popularized and televised event that drew almost everyone to watch.
