John identified the hereditary nature of red-green color blindness. In 1803 he revealed the concept of Dalton’s Law of Partial Pressures. Also in the 1800s, he was the first scientist to explain the behavior of atoms in terms of the measurement of weight. -
J.J Thomson
Thomson discovered the electron in a series of experiments designed to study the nature of electric discharge in a high-vacuum cathode-ray tube, an area being investigated by numerous scientists at the time. -
Ernest Rutherford
Ernest suggested that most of the mass of the atom was contained in the small nucleus, and that the rest of the atom was mostly empty space. -
Niels Bohr
Bohr was an accomplished physicist who came up with a revolutionary theory on atomic structures and radiation emission. -
James Chadwick
Chadwick made a fundamental discovery in the domain of nuclear science: he proved the existence of neutrons. -
Paul Dirac
Dirac managed to formulate a fully relativistic quantum theory. The equation gave solutions that he interpreted as being due to the existence of a particle corresponding to the electron, but of positive charge. This particle, the positron, was later found experimentally. -
Democritus
Democritus was born in 460 B.C and lived until 370 B.C. He claimed that everything was made up out of atoms. He also helped to propose the earliest views on the shapes and connectivity of atoms.
