9/11 Terrorist Attacks
On the morning of September 11th, 2001, members of the Islamic extremeist group Al-Qaeda bombed the World Trade Centers in New York and the Pentagon in Washington D.C. using hijacked planes filled with passengers. There were three planes involved with the direct attacks and a fourth that crashed in a field in Pennsylvanina. After this event video games shifted from comic humor to realistic violence. -
Ratchet & Clank is released for Playstation 2
One of the first action adventure series is released for Playstation 2 on this date. It features fun comic humor and violence. The game revolves around cartoon animation and fun filled times where as later games are more dark and realistic. -
Gears of War is released
Gears of war is a cooperative third person shooter that features the Unreal Engine from Epic games. This is a revolutionary step in the realistic war scenes that have become popular since 9/11. The use of Unreal Engine became very popular with its realistic features. -
Release of Playstation 3
November 16th, 2006 is the date the first Playstation 3 console was released which helped revolutionize the next generation gaming. This console was developed by Sony which owns the rights to the Playstation brand. This was the first console to use HDMI cables or enable high definition gaming. The system featured a built in hard drive eliminating the need for memory cards. This was also the shift towards realistic games as compared to cartoon games of the past. -

Royal Wedding of Prince WIlliam and Kate Middleton
On April 29th, 2011 Prince William marries Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey in London. Somewhere around 1,900 guests attended the actual ceremony while over 1 million people stood lining the streets of London spectating. It's estimated that over 2 billion people worldwide watched the ceremony which was televised. -

On April 15th, 2013 during the Boston Marathon two bombs were detonated by the Tsarnaev brothers killing 3 bystanders and injuring more than 260 people. -

Patrice Desilets announces the creation of a new AAA game development studio out of Quebec called Panache Digital Studios. Patrice Desilets was credited for creating Assassins Creed and Prince of Persia. which were major titles of the era of Playstation 3. -

At the age of 55 Nintendo President Satoru Iwata passes away. Satoru helped nintendo develop the Gamecube and Wii as well as the Wii U. Due to failing health he was not able to attend last years E3 confrence. -
