The Deepwater Horizon Rig Explodes
Oil spill VideoA few miles into the Gulf of Mexico, a gigantic explosion happened on the Deep Water Horizon Oil Rig. At the time of the explosion, the rig was producing up to 336,000 gallons of oil a day and carrying some 700,000 gallons of fuel oil. This impacted the environment by killing some animals and covering them with oil. It also impacted the people by making them come and help to put the fire out.

The Deepwater Horizon Sinks
After burning for thirty six hours, the rig explodes for a second time causing it to sink. This caused eleven workers to go missing and it had a humongous impact on the ocean wildlife.

Dead Sea turtles washed ashore
At least 25 dead turtles were washed on the shore of the mississippi costline. All turtles are members of threatened or endangered species. This also affected humans by polluting their beaches with oil and dead turtles, also affecting their emotions making them want to help.

11 People Killed
Iformation on the oil spill.
During this time, it was confirmed that 11 people were killed during the explosion, that at first were missing. This explosion not only killed humans, but killed animals as well. -
Hurricane Alex Disrupts Cleanup
Hurricane Alex serves up strong waves and high winds, which means less oil can be collected. The storm eventually flows West, meaning its impact was much lower than it was before. -
Animals being saved
Animals being rescued video and info. Rescuers are cleaning the oil of the animals and releasing them back into their habitats. This impacted the people by inspiring them to make a change in the world. -
"The Worst Spill"
The US government says the oil spill was officially the biggest leak ever, with 4.9 million barrels of oil spilled. Scientists say only a fifth of th oil-800,000 barrels-was captured during the clean up. The enviroment was impacted by the pollution of the Gulf of Mexico beach.

Obama personally thanked everyone for helping the environment by cleaning the oil of the animals that were effected. -

The humans were involoved in the event by helping clean off all the oil of the birds, plus possibly saving the whole species. -

The Beach Today Video
The beach has recovered, after 2 years and $23 billion of cleanup. Now the animals have totally recovered, and humans now use the beach daily, with no sign of oil.
