Great Brink's Robbery
Brinks Inc. was robbed on January 17, 1950 by 6 men. They skillfully and quietly stole around 2.7 million dollars. The police were offering $100,000 as reward for information leading to arrest. Sadly there were a lot of dead ends even with the reward out. -
Korean War
Essentially this war kicked off with a conflict between North Korea and South Korea due to the borders. The Soviet Union and People's Republic of China were at N.K.'s aid. The United Nations joined S.K. to help and repel N.K.'s invasion. In the end it resulted with 2.5 million deaths and no changes to the border. -
Development of the Birth Control Pill
Carl Djerassi along with a couple other people had worked on the main compound for the birth control pill. The compound is called Norethindrone which became first effective substance made. -
Nevada Nuclear Test
On January 27, 1951 the U.S. government decided to move the bomb testing to the mainland resulting in the first atmospheric nuclear test. This operation was called Operation Ranger. Due to negative health effects they decided to move the testing underground in some later years. -
Death of King George VI of England
Elizabeth II became the Queen of England at the age of 25 due to her father death. King George VI died on February 6, 1952 in his sleep which was assumed to be a result of a heart attack by coronary thrombosis. -
Premier of Singin' In The Rain
Singin' in the Rain was said to be one of the best musicals ever made due to it's artistic achievement and innovative ideas. The cast prepared intensively for this musical especially it's premier. All the effort to make it wasn't in vain since it was a pinnacle for studio movie-making. -

On February 28, 1953 Francis Crick(physicist) and James Waston(biologist) discovered the double-helix in human DNA using studies of x-ray diffraction. -
Death of Joseph Stalin
Joseph was the leader Soviet Union till he died March 5, 1953. His death was caused by cerebral hemorrhage. He did many things in his time which can include rigorous police terror, demolition of individual freedom, industrialization of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, etc. -
Brown v. Board of Education
On May 17, 1954 came the ruling of the Brown v. Board of Education case stating the segregation was unconstitutional. It was agreed that the separation of race was not appropriate. This being with a school refusing the enrollment of Oliver Brown's daughter due to their race. -
Ellis Island Immigration Point Closed
On November 12, 1954 New York officially closed Ellis Island immigration point. This point has processed 12 million immigrants since 1892. The closing was to limit the number immigrants entering the United States. -
First Guinness Book Published
This book was created due to an argument about what was the fastest game bird to which there was no book that could confirm or deny the said theory. The official publication date was August 27, 1955. -
Debut of Mickey Mouse Club
The Mickey Mouse Club became to be the most popular show of it's time. It featured a cast of different kids in which were called Mouseketeers and they did skits and musicals. Couple moths after the show debuted Disneyland Park was introduced to the public. -
Rosa Parks Arrested
Rosa Parks was one her way home from working while sitting in the designated colored section. When told to give up her seat for a white man she refused which is what lead to her arrest (on December 1, 1955.) From then on she inspired the infamous Montgomery Bus Boycott and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. -
First Hard Disk Invented
A team formed by Reynold Johnson a couple years earlier gathered together and through Jacob Rabinow's ideas it was created. -
Elvis Presley Heartbreak Hotel
January 27, 1956 Elvis Presley released Heartbreak Hotel as his first song under his new label. This song was written by Mae Boren Axton and Tommy Durdon. It was said that the song was inspired by a man who committed suicide by jumping out of a hotel window. -
Asian Flu Influenza of 1957
The Asian Flu started some time in February of 1957. This is one of the second major influenza of the 20th century being the least severe. A mutation in wild ducks resulting in over 150,000 deaths. -
Viet Cong attacks South Vietnam
Viet Cong guerrillas opposed the President Diem. They wanted to rid the "puppet" army and give all government power to the people. -
Patent of the LEGO Brick
Ole Kirk Christiansen started from making wooden toys but later in the future decided to get the lego brick patented with much decision. The Lego name originated from the Danish phrase led godt (play well). -
Munich Air Disaster
One February 5, 1958 the Manchester United team(soccer) had just secured their spot in the semifinals of the 1957-58 European Cup. Unfortunately the next day on the plane due to the bad weather(near- blizzard and cold/strong winds) the plane slid off the runway causing the death of 8 players and 15 other people including some journalists. -
NASA Launches Pioneer 4
March 3, 1959 marks the date of the launch of Pioneer 4. While it couldn't meet it's goal of photographing the Moon in a flyby it still became one of America's first spacecraft to leave Earth's orbit and the nations first probe to reach heliocentric orbit. -
First Appearance of Barbie
On March 9, 1959 the first Barbie was introduced to the public. In the beginning it was quite the controversy due to it's body figure. Mattel evaded the problem by directly targeting children through their commercials. -
