The 2004 Sumatra earthquake
The 2004 Sumatra Earthquake occurred along the West Coast of Northern Sumatra, Indonesia on December 26, 2004 with the magnitude of 9.1 killing 230,000 people. It caused the ocean floor to rise as much as 40meters, the first several 100 ft wave killed more than 100,000 people and pounded the city into rubble. -
The 2009 Samoa Earthquake
The 2009 Samoa Earthquake occurred midway between Samoa and American Samoa on September 29, 2009 with a 8.1 magnitude killing 192 people. The waves generated up to 22 meters. It was caused by stresses in the sub ducting oceanic plate induced by bending as the plate entered the trench.
