    Chapter 1 - "Frenchie's coming-to story"
    The story begins with Frenchie and his brother enjoying a treat in a treehouse. They are interrupted by recruiters, and Frenchie is ordered to hide. The story then reveals the indigenous community's situation in modern residential schools. Frenchie and his family embark on a journey, but ultimately, it's Frenchie who joins a small group led by Miigwans, known as The Fire.

    Miigwans explains the intentions of the Recruiters and how they want their bone marrow. Frenchie looks around the room and describes each other group member. We are introduced to: Minerva, Chi-Boy, Three and Zheegwon (Twins), Slopper, Wab, and RiRI
  • Chapter 3 - "Story Part One"

    Chapter 3 - "Story Part One"
    Frenchie is introduced to Story, something that Miigwans tells every week. Frenchie learns more of the history of the Anishnaabe people, and how they were hunted by the colonizers. The goal of the group is told to Frenchie (move up North), and RiRi becomes curious about Story Rose is found by the group as an intruder. The group had been ready to fight, but luckily she was on their side.
  • Chapter 4 - "Magic Words"

    Chapter 4 - "Magic Words"
    Rose shares her story, and how she grew up with more elders. Rose displays strong negative emotions towards the government and shows interest in going after it. The group is separated into hunting and homestead, the groups switch roles every three months. Rose speaks a word from the language, which makes Frenchie jealous of not knowing it. Frenchie falls asleep in the forest and dreams of his brother being captured, but then woken up and told to start moving.

    Frenchie's Nightmares and Hunting
    • Frenchie experiences nightmares about his parents.
    • He talks to RiRi about his family.
    • Miig starts the hunt, distributing watches.
    • The group splits up for deer hunting.
    • Frenchie encounters a great moose, not killed.
    • Wab is late by 40 minutes, a reason explained in the next chapter.
  • Chapter 6 - "A Plague of Madness"

    Chapter 6 - "A Plague of Madness"
    After travelling without sight of any danger or recruiters, the group slows their pace to enjoy their time more.
    The group begins to talk philosophically and discuss the intentions of the recruiters according to the schools and what the world stands to gain from the Indigenous.
    Wab reveals what she saw, or rather who she saw in the forest, she explains that she saw two "Indians", one she recognized as a man who wasn't honest.
  • Chapter 7 - "The Four Winds"

    Chapter 7 - "The Four Winds"
    The group arrives at The Four Winds, a resort that had been shut down, they use it as shelter.
    Minerva tells an old tale of a character that she had an encounter with, she explains that she's marked by it and people know.
    Rose tells Frenchie her story, how her parents were taken and she was left with her brothers and grandmother, all of whom had now passed away.
    Rose and Frenchie share a kiss, which plays a role in their relationship.
  • Chapter 8 - 'Wab's coming-to Story"

    Chapter 8 - 'Wab's coming-to Story"
    Wab begins to tell the pack her story, she talks about living in the streets (specifically a dumpster) and dealing with her alcoholic mother. Wab worked as a messenger after being ambushed by a group of "thugs", who were sexually assaulted.
    Wab for a few days, causing her to be scarred both physically (the long scar on her face) and mentally. She then added and said that the man she saw was the one who organized the ambush.
  • Chapter 9 - "Story Part 2"

    Chapter 9 - "Story Part 2"
    Miigwans resumes the story from where it was left last time, he talks of the deaths, the changes in the earth, power sickening people, and the overall lack of quality of life.
    The Indigenous people were then looked upon by the rest of the world, when everyone was refused, the world found another way.
    The Indigenous started to get taken from prisons when they refused otherwise, eventually, it was let out that people were getting killed for their bone marrow.
  • Chapter 12 - "Finding Direction"

    Chapter 12 - "Finding Direction"
    Miig begins to tell Frenchie about a new residential school, but he says not to tell the others for fear that they'll lose some hope for their future.
    Everybody relaxes for a bit and eats some birds cooked on the barbecue, Frenchie learns a word from Minerva.
    After, Miig tells the group their next step, all the while, Frenchie keeps thinking about Miig and Isaac, knowing Isaac had certainly been killed.
  • Chapter 10 - "Back Into the Woods"

    Group's Exit from The Four Winds
    • Frenchie and Rose's relationship is disrupted due to quieter Rose.
    • Frenchie investigates smoke in the distance, leading to Miig's intervention.
    • Miig shares Minerva's past, including capture and rape by recruiters and the theft of her grandson.
    • Miig ends with his own story of his husband Isaac being taken by schools.
  • Chapter 11 - "Miigwan's Coming-To Story"

    Chapter 11 - "Miigwan's Coming-To Story"
    The chapter follows Miigwans and Isaac, who are investigating a noise outside their cabin. They found two women and a man, with the younger one appearing squirmish and the other two suspicious. Miig woke up to find the younger girl wandering, and when confronted, she told him to run. The men and women then grabbed her, and recruiters drove up to their property, taking them.
  • Chapter 13 - "The Potential of Change"

    Chapter 13 - "The Potential of Change"
    Adventurers Discover Lunchbox in the Snow
    • Frenchie discovers a small lunchbox in the snow.
    • Frenchie spots two men in the distance.
    • Wab confirms they are the same men she saw previously.
    • Frenchie contemplates the consequences of their actions.
    • Rose suggests situations could be improved.
    • Chi-Boy informs the adventurers they are not far from the suspicious men.
