    Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Comprimise was when the territory of missouri wanted to enter the union as a slave state. This idea was refused by the Northern states since Missouri was a slave state and woould break the balance of free and slave states. The Great comprimiser A.K.A Henery Clay settled this by saying that Main would come in as a free state. Then the Comprimise line was put in place saying that no state above the line could have slaves this line is known as the 36,30 line.
  • The Nullification Crisis 1832

    The Nullification Crisis 1832
    The Govt. passed a tarrif that only helped the north and incereased the price of goods. This angered the south and they demanded that they had the right to nullify it. This led to troubles and the president reacted by sending armed forces to south caralina. The vice president resigned because the crisisa was in his home state. The great Comprimiser Henery Clay made an amazing compramise, to lower tarrifs.
  • Comprimise of 1850

    Comprimise of 1850
    This comprimise was directly after the U.S had acquired all of the land from Mexico. Congress was split apart in two sides, slaves or no slaves in those areas. Then Henery Clay stepped in and came up with a Great Comprimise in 1850, the state of california would be a free state and Washington D.C would not have any Slave Trade.

    This act allowed the recapture of slaves that had escaped from the South and had escaped to freedom in the North. This made it critical for slaves to have their freedom papers at all times. If a slave didn't have them, the assumption was that they had escaped.This raised tensions since neighbors would often be kidnapped for money.

    Everyone came to kansas to vote if slavery should be allowed in this territory. The Legislature had a proslavery view on things.Then the antislavery Govt. was attacked and to get revenge they defended themselves.

    This was when the supreme court ruled that all slaves free or slave could never be citizens. The court also ruled that the Missouri Comprimise was unconstitutional. This angered abolitionist that slaves would never be equal.
  • Attack on Harpers Ferry 1859

    Attack on Harpers Ferry 1859
    A man by the name of John Brown wanted to Inspire slaves to fight against their owners. To do this he tried to make an example by attacking the military base in Virginia to arm the slaves. He sent out a word to ralley the slaves to fight with him but none of them did, but he still atacked. Him and his men were killed but many abolitionist agreed with him and blamed the south for "murdering" him.

    This was the election that an abolitiionist by the name of Abraham Lincoln won. This scared the south since he had so much power on laws he could easily declare slavery illegal, with the help of congress of course.The south got scared and left the union to become the confedaracy. Th efirst state to leave was the state of South Caralina just as they had almost done during the nullification crisis.
