The move was first introduced by jazz icon Cab Calloway around 1932 which was called "The Buzz" at the time. -
Mambo and East Coast Swing
The Mambo and East Coast Swing developed as a stress reliever for Americans after The Great Depression and World War II. The Mambo is a Cuban dance style and East Coast Swing featured dances like Modern Jive and Boogie Woogie. -
Hand Jive and Cha Cha
Around the mid-century people took the Jive to their hands, by dancing with their hands in fast movements like seen in the movie Grease. The Mambo and Rumba were combined to create the Cha Cha which is triple steps called Chasse and rock steps. -
Locking, Popping and Robot-ing
Popping, Locking and Breaking is one of the earliest forms of funk. People started becoming more creative and the robot dance became very popular around this time. -
Disco, Chicago Stepping and Salsa
Disco is whaat started the beginning stage of the nightclub scene, people would go out with colorful shiny outfits and bell bottom pants to show their freely moving dancing moves. -
Rock and Roll
Rock and Roll was very popular during this time, people created Moshing in most pits which is a back and forth body movement. -
Zumba and Memphis Jookin'
Zumba fitness became very popular in the 1990's because of Alberto Perez who created an aerobic exercise program. Memphis Jookin' as well became very popular with the rise of hip hop and rap. -
Krumping and Electro Dance
Hip Hop was at it's primer during the 2000's and Krumping was the dance floor favorite dance move which started in the streets of Los Angeles. Electronic music also rose and Electro Dance was created by combining Vogue moves with Disco.
