-In this time period there was many belly dancers.(500 AD)
-CRAMIGNON-a festive dance of southern France in which the dancers are in chain formation (900 AD) -Sarabande =The chief step consisted of a quick shift from toe-out to toe-in while the rest were slow glides. The Dance starts with a coupe', Chasse's and follows with a pas, tombes, sison and boure. The remaining part of the Sarabande was up to the dancer to interpret as they saw fit (1100AD) -

Renaissance period
In 1463 The Torch Dance was very common in Germany.This dance consisted of having torches in the air while someone danced in the middle of them expressing their feelings with the rythm of the music. -

Ballet Spread
In the mid 1500's Italian noble woman, Catherine de' Medici, was crowned queen of France. Balthasar de Beaujoyeux, one of the queen's court musicians/composers, began to create a ballet for her enjoyment. It was named "Le Ballet comique de la Reine" and was performed by dancers, singers, and an orchestra and the piece lasted for over five hours! It is considered to be the first ballet ever written. -

Jazz (Bill Johnson)
In 1911 Bill Johnson, a New Orleans bass player, moved to California and eventually managed to get his orchestra to follow him. From 1913 till 1917 the Original Creole Band was the first black orchestra to tour outside New Orleans. Unlike blues music, that was exclusively performed by blacks, jazz music was as inter-racial as the melting pot of New Orleans -
Earl Tucker
Earl Tucker ("Snake Hips") was a performer at the Cotton Club during the days of Duke Ellington. His style of dance is defintly related that of waving that you see young Hip Hop dancers still doing today. and he also had similar floats and back slides that he used in his act as well. -

Jack Cole, also known as "The Father of Jazz Dance" was the man who created many of the broadway performances Marilyn Monroe performed in. He was the influence to many of the other Jazz dance choreographers. -

The dancing techniques used in Revelations and all other Ailey works, were influenced by Ailey's mentor and friend, Lester Horton (Lewis-Ferguson 13). Horton always told his students that they must "communicate well through movement, that they have the strength and endurance, and that they use the full range of space, tempo, and rhythm. -

James Brown's music has influenced HIP HOP overall, from his dancing, call and response, his musical feel, his influence on BREAK BEATS or FUNK DRUMMING. James Brown hired so many influential drummers and musicians in his band that he pretty much single handedly shaped the world of BREAK BEAT MUSIC -

Ancient Period
Salome
- She was a girl that had beauty and a talent of belly dancing. The type of dance was mostly used for sexual seduction. In recent days this dance is now known as belly dancing. (AD 34)
Java Dancing
-Java takes the form of a fast waltz, with the dancers dancing very close to one another, taking small steps to advance. Men will often place both their hands on their partner's buttocks while dancing. Naturally, this led some of the more respectable bal-musette dance halls banning java(200AD) -

Ancient Period
In this time period the dance Farandole was very common in France. The dancers formed a linked chain by joining hands or by means of red handkerchiefs. The music, which was originally in 6/8, gave the signal; the chain gave way, running, skipping or just walk through the streets or roads, increasing with all the people whom it meets, and it goes on thus in a very quick and very rhythmical movement(9 AD)
-Another Dance that was very popular was The Dance if the Seven Veils, Danced by Salome.
