    Native Americans There were between 140-160 Indian Tribes, 27 states derive names from Indian languages. Tribes were able to turn corn, potatoes, pumpkin, yams, etc... into farm crops for human consumption. Many modern American farm products were grown by Native Americans. They used natural herbs for medicine. Native Americans also made salt by evaporation and mined minerals like copper, lead, and coal.
