Dallas become a town
Dallas was officially named a town and has around 2,000 residents. Its first Mayor was Samuel Pryor. -
1861
The town seceded from the union. There was no Mayor in office, the town was inder protection of the states military. -
John M. Crockett
Crockett became the Mayor of Dallas. He also practiced law and opened his own law office and served as deputy county clerk. -
First Train
The Firt Railroad Train came to Dallas in 1872 -
Henry Ervay
Henry was the Mayor in 1872 but was soon thrown out by the Governor or Texas, E.J. Davis. He refused and was thrown in jail. -
Farmers Alliance
The Farmers Alliance built the first Warehouse to house Cotton. -
J.M. Thurmond
Thurmond was elected Mayor of Dallas in 1879 and was voted out of ofice in 1880 by a majority vote. -
John Henry Brown
John Henry Brown was elected as Mayor in 1885 and retired in 1887to write about Texas History. -
F.P. Holland
Franklin Pierce Holland was elected mayor in 1895 and also helped established the State Fair. -
Ben E. Cabell
Ben became Mayor in 1900 and oversaw the building of the Bachman Dam. -
Great Depression
The Great Depression hit Dallas hard just like mant other great cities. There were more than 1,800 people out of work. -
Ron Kirk
Ron Kirk was the first African American Mayor of Dallas. He is now President Obamas Senior official in charge of trade ploicy. -
1991-1995
Steve Bartlet was elected to the nonpartisan postition as mayor of Dallas. Mayor Bartlett did some amazing things for Dallas such as reducing the viloence in the downdown area. He is now known as the $2 Million Man.
