    "Cyberpunk" was a short story that was written by Bruce Bethke in 1980 and released in the November 1983 issue of "Amazing Science Fiction Stories." This is believed to be the major influence as this is the first recording of the word ever being used.

This movie was one of the first film works that categorised itself within the "Cyberpunk" genre, as it did fit the post-apocalyptic setting and futuristic tone. It was based on the novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by Philip K Dick (1968).
