Give the go ahead by President Kennedy a U.S. backed group of Cuban exiles invades Cuba. Without U,S. military aid the exiles are quickly defeated by the Cuban military. -

The Soviets began the militarization of Cuba with rockets, missiles, launch pads, ect. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
U.S. spy planes discovered that the soviets were setting up missiles in Cuba capable of hitting U.S. cities. President John F. Kennedy would go on to quarantine Cuba preventing further missile delivery by the Soviets.The Soviet premier Khrushchev and Kennedy would go strike a deal for the U.S. to remove missiles from Turkey and for the Soviets to do the same from Cuba
