October 23, 1962 Kennedy signs Proclamation 3504
Kennedy signs Proclamation 3504, which authorizes the naval quarantine of Cuba. Russian vessels head toward Cuba carrying military supplies, all but one oil tanker stops in its track. The U.S. fears they will be forced to fire upon a Russian ship, so President Kennedy negotiates with a Soviet ambassador to halt the cruiser. -

October 26, 1962 Khruschev Negotiates
Khruschev says he'll remove missiles if the U.S. says they won't invade Cuba. -
October 27, 1962 U-2 Missiles Over Russia
A U-2 plane is shot down over Russia and another one is accidentally flown over Russia. Khrushev also says he wants missiles removed from Turkey. -

The crisis is ended because Khruschev agreed to remove the ICBMs from Cuba
