  • Granma expedition

    Granma expedition
    Fidel Castro , Che Guevara, Camilo Cienfuegos, and Castros brothers with 80 + fighters headed to Cuba on the yacht Granma when it was purchased for 18,000$. Although repairs on the yacht weren’t completed he proceeded to send them to Cuba due to the rumors he heard about the police turning them over to Batista. When they arrived they had trouble unloading weapons and they were also hungry, farmers and peasants have them food, after the war many were killed.
  • Sierra Maestra

    Sierra Maestra
    On November 25 1956 when the Granma departed from Tuxpan, Veracruz with the Castro brothers it arrived to Cuba on December 2. They were loaded with resources they then began making their way to Sierra Maestra after three days from when the trek began Batistas army attacked and killed most of Granmas participants. Less than 20 of the 80 men survived they than wandered to the mountains looking for each other. With the help of peasants they would create a guerrilla army.

    Attack on La Plata Garrison
    The attack on the small army of garrison created their first victory, it was proving that the rebel army did in fact exist and was ready to fight. They had 22 weapons ready for the attack and had little ammunition, the attack then began at 2:40 and the guards had put up fierce resistance more than they had expected. This was one of the first battles that had more weapons than men.
  • Battle at El Uvero

    Battle at El Uvero
    The attack on El Uvero was similar to the one on La Plata since. It took place at Ubero on the south coast Oriente Province. This battle was the first Major confrontation between the incipient Rebel Army bad a garrison of tyranny Batistiana. The purpose of the battle was to distract forces that persecuted the expeditionary one of Corinthia yacht that left the ship days before. The day of the battle the rebel’s released the soldiers of tyranny who surrendered the troops led by Castro.
  • Operation Verano

    Operation Verano
    Operation Verano was given to the summer offensive by Batista during the Revolution, one of its aims for creating this was to defeat Castro's army, and other anti government groups. By the rebels it was known as “The Offensive”. Although in the beginning it did have some success it ended in failure three months later. It resulted in several defeats, surrenders, and losses for batista's forces. The failure had left the Cuban army hopeless.
  • El Jigüe

    El Jigüe
    The battle of El Jigüe lasted for ten days on July 11-21 in 1958, it could be considered as the most revealing complex part of the war. El Jigüe is most commonly known as the Battle of La Plata and it was launched by Batistas forces as part of the Operation Verano, it was created to end the Castro Rebellion. During the battle several things changed such as troops on opposite side sharing their food, and commanders changing their allegiance.
  • Battle of Yaguajay

    Battle of Yaguajay
    This battle happened near Santa Carla, it was an undecided battle between the Cuban Revolutionaries and soldiers o the Batista government. Three columns were sent to Santa Clara by Che Guevara, Jaime Vega, and Camilo Cienfuegos, Cienfuegos column was the only one that didn't get caught and was able to directly attack a local army garrison. At first it was only 60 of Castros men, Cienfuegos then began to gain popularity and got recruiters and gained 450-500 fighters.

    The battle of Santa Carla was 3 days that led to the capture of Santa Clara under Che Guevera. The forces by Guevera said to have no more than 300 men, a train was dispatched with 400 reinforcements and several supplies it was said that this could have caused a bloodbath for the rebels but fortunately the second day the train was derailed.The battle was said to be undecided, it was between Castros, and Batistas forces. When Batista fled Cuba, castro the then claimed victory.

    During the presidential elections that were made to make Batista the sole candidate, his regime has finally fell by Castro's rebel forces that had launched their attack on 1958. Castro’s supporters moved quickly to establish their power. Batista then fled with his family to the Dominican Republic due to the collapse of his regime, he then later went into exile.

    After the Santa Carla was Castors troops entered Havana Guevara served at La Cabaña prison for a couple months where he then saw executions of enemies from the revolution. When they first arrived their they would only travel by foot at night to avoid ambush. He then be became a citizen in Cuba during the newly established marxist government.

    When Castro’s entered Havana the crowd was loud and the ranks of marches was so unruly. Their were rebel’s that sat on Chevrolet bonnets, human pyramids on tanks and peasant were on horseback. Castro’s final stop was Camp Columbia and you can say that his speech was less triumphant and more sombre. Although their was several challenges the social democracy would prosper.
