My Project: Exposition
After looking in the book for a singular event I wanted to change. I remembered a scene from the movie of Elizabeth Proctor in the courthouse after John confessed his unfaithfulness. Fearing for her husband's good name, she did not confess to his adultery. That resulted in the stories not matching up, and everyone being dragged off to be hanged. I have changed this scene, resulting in the rest of the story being changed. -

Events that Remained the Same
The events beginning with the dancing in the woods all the way up to Elizabeth Proctor being summoned to the court are the same. -
Elizabeth's Decision
John Proctor has confessed his adultery to the court. Danforth has asked them to turn around before Elizabeth is let in. He asks Elizabeth to share why she fired Abigail. Elizabeth knows the situation and what is at stake as one of the the passersby who saw John enter the court went and told her. She enters into the court and confesses to John's adultery instead of keeping it a secret to try to protect John. -
Fallout
All of the girl's stories have been proven false as everything has been unravelled by Elizabeth's statement. Mary's story is also told further disproving the girls. However, John Proctor accused himself of adultery. John is taken to the prison while the fallout of all the "afflicted" girls' lies takes place. -
Reverend Parris
After the girls are proven false, the court goes about freeing all the people from jail caught up in the lie. Giles Corey steps out in front of the crowd with his wife. He condemns Reverend Parris for his involvement in the lies of the girls to keep his name clean and to scoop up the land of the accused. There was a riot and Reverend was hanged by an enraged crowd. The next day, the town regrets being so rash, and they give him a proper burial. -
The Girls
To protect the girls from the people while also holding them until their own trial, they are all locked in cells. At John's request, they are not all locked up together for fear of Mary being killed. The jail has a limited number of cells so all of the girls are locked up two to a cell. Abigail is enraged and ends up killing Mercy Lewis out of rage in the cell they were in together. All of the girls and John look on in horror as Abigail goes insane. -
John's Temptation
When a guard comes to the cells at the commotion, he sees the dead body of Mercy Lewis and takes Abigail to be held somewhere else. She is able to subdue the guard by clawing and biting. She takes the guard's keys and unlocks all of the girls' cells. After all of the girls have escaped, she stays behind and goes on unlock John Proctor's cell. In doing so, he pulls her against the bars, knocking her out. He then puts her back in a cell and locks both their doors. -
Hell on Earth
It has been three days since the incident. Abigail has gone completely insane and has to be restrained at all times, and held down to eat. John watches in horror. He used to get the occasional visitor, but now the rumors of Abigail's insanity have driven away any would be visitor. Then, the strongest men in the town come and take her out of her cell. John was then led out of his cell for his trial. -
Scorned or Saved
After Abigail was taken from her cell, she was tried in the court as a witness to John's adultery. She was so demented, that she couldn't even say a single english word. She was dragged out of the courthouse to be tried late for her crimes. Since she was unable to testify to John's adultery, Reverend Hale sees an opportunity. He claims that John was telling such a massive lie to force the girls into their true nature. They decide to adjourn the court so that they may discuss. -
Guilty Until Proven Innocent
Thanks to his actions causing the girls to be proven to be liars, the court deems him innocent. The whole town rejoices that an unjust trial was avoided. However, while the people are rejoicing, they notice that John has left. John has gone back to his house with Elizabeth. He decides that he needs to leave. He feels that he can't face Elizabeth and wants to find all of the "afflicted" girls to be tried and punished. -
The Journey of a Sinner
John gets the necessary warrants and sets off to find the girls. Elizabeth takes care of the kids and they all take care of the farm. He travels to many towns and meets many new friends and enemies. While some girls were captured, some came back willingly as they were tormented by their grief. -
The Return of the Afflicted
John walks into town over two years later with two other men as well as all of the girls riding in a carriage. They are brought in and tried for their crimes and found guilty. They were incarcerated for many years after that and were eventually released, where they left Salem to other towns.
