Magna Carta is signed
The Magna Carta was a document that inspired the United States Constitution. It was signed by the king agreeing to lower the King's powers to protect the rights of the people. This showed that the power of the state can be limited if the people think that it will be beneficial to the country. -
Congress Meets
Congress meet for the first time at Carpenter's Hall, Philadelphia. All colonies except for Georgia sent 2 delegates. The Congress met to discuss the problems that were occuring with the rule of England in the new colonies. -
Articles of Confederation
The Articles of Confederation were ratified. The Articles proclaimed to be a weak central government, and most states ruled themselves with their own power. -
Shay's Rebellion
A dispute between the farmers in Massachusetts and the courts. The taxes got too high, and the farmers couldnt support their families. America noticed what happened although Shay didn't get too far to try to overthrow the court. -
Constitutional Convention
The Constitutional Convention took place to discuss the problems happening in America under the Articles of Confederation. The end result of the convention was to create the Constitution. -
Constitution is finalized
This day, the Bill of Rights is added to the constitution, finalizing it and giving the colonies a new rule underneath this constitution. The Bill of Rights gave the constitution a basis where the people had an agreement with their government, a governement by the people, for the people.
